MLB Betting – Milwaukee at Arizona

2007-08-22

With a franchise record 42 consecutive scoreless innings in his pocket, Arizona starting pitcher Brandon Webb will continue aiming at Orel Hershiser’s Major League record of 59 innings when he and the Diamondbacks take on the Brewers Wednesday.

Both Milwaukee and Arizona are locked in tight races for their respective division title so this game clearly carries more weight than simply and kind of pitching record. However, with as dominant as Webb has been over the past month or so, the defending N.L. Cy Young award winner is sure to be the focus of everyone’s attention.

Webb has won five straight starts, coming on the heels of a team four game losing skid when he had taken the hill. Ironically though, most of the trends for this game concerning the stud-right hander are on the total rather than the side. For instance:

WEBB is 11-1 UNDER (+9.9 Units) after giving up no earned runs last outing over the last 2 seasons. (Team's Record) The average score was WEBB 2.8, OPPONENT 1.9 - (Rating = 2*).

He and the D-Backs are a –190 opening line favorite for this game. It is the second highest chalk line that Webb will have pitched to this season.

Because of the severity of the opening line, the FoxSheets systems seem to be siding to Milwaukee. Here is one of the more successful angles:

Play On - Road teams (MILWAUKEE) - with a starting pitcher whose ERA is 4.70 to 5.20 on the season (NL), good power team - averaging 1.25 or more HR's/game on the season. (71-49 over the last 5 seasons.) (59.2%, +30.7 units. Rating = 2*)

Milwaukee is the top home run hitting team in the league and opened this current three-game set by hitting three out of Chase Field on Monday.

Jeff Suppan goes for the Brew Crew. He is 8-10, and his team is 13-13 for –0.1 net units in his starts. The good news is that Suppan hasn’t allowed more than five earned runs in any start since June 17th.
